Alcumus SafeContractor, the UK’s leading health and safety accreditation company, today announced that it has been selected by The Abbeyfield Society as its partner of choice to ensure contractor health and safety standards are met.
The annual report by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) suggests that around 581,000 workers sustained non-fatal injuries in 2018/20191. Many of these are down to unsafe work practices which can be avoided with the correct education and precautions.
Richard Horn, Abbeyfield Regional Property Manager for the West Region, said: “Joining SafeContractor is an important step for Abbeyfield West Region as it signals to our residents that we will not compromise on health and safety.”
“With over 100 properties in England, The Abbeyfield Society is actively seeking more contractors to work with, but with an ever-growing number of locations, we needed to find a way to effectively monitor, manage, and make informed decisions about the companies we work with.”
“I have used the SafeContractor contractor management system in a previous role. It not only saved us valuable time and money, but it also provided peace of mind that the contractors that we worked with across our locations were compliant with the law and working to the highest standards. In addition, the feedback that I received from our contractors at the time was that they are better off having become accredited, as they are confident that their practices are industry-leading.”
“It was a common sense to implement this in my new role at the Abbeyfield Society, and I look forward to helping my colleagues in the other regions to do likewise in the near future.”
Gemma Archibald, Director of Alcumus SafeContractor said: “As the latest HSE statistics suggest, appropriate health and safety vetting of your supply chain is essential to minimise the risks to individuals and your business. We’re thrilled that Abbeyfield West Region has joined our community of more than 400 organisations seeking to become safer, healthier and stronger. The firm’s high standard has set an example which hopefully will be followed by other companies within the sector.”
“SafeContractor plays a vital role in supporting our clients in meeting their compliance needs, and the need to leverage supplier capabilities in this manner is increasingly recognised as a key driver of competitive advantage.”
